Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) needed the assistance of the White House in early 2005 to overcome opposition within his own party to his chairmanship. In late November, Specter repaid the Bush Administration by unveiling draft legislation that would bring about a massive increase in government- mandated immigration to the U.S.
President Bush, in his immigration address on November 28, pledged to work for an increase in the number of green cards issued each year and stated his intent to work with Sen. Specter to bring it about. Specter�s draft legislation would send government mandated immigration levels into the 2 million-a-year range.
Under Specter�s draft legislation, the cap on family-preference immigration would be increased by 254,000 visas annually and hundreds of thousands of additional relatives would be exempted from annual limits. In addition, Specter proposes raising the cap on employment-based immigration by 150,000 a year, and allocating any unused visas to other preference categories.

Isn't is written somwhere that if the last day of a month falls on a saturday or a sunday then they accept the applications on the next working day even if it falls under next month.
Last day of June is a saturday and so won't they have to accept the june applications on Monday???/

If there is someone who can do my job cheaper or better or more efficiently - by all means it should go to him. I need to then find something where I am good at. Thats what competition is! So on your question about "l1 fraud": by all means I am for reporting it. However, there is another overriding concern for ALL OF US - how will the economy behave? I dont want to worsen things by "reporting fraud" at a mass scale right now and create trouble for companies that are already suffering. I am not for tolerating or condoning illegal behavior - however, I am all for moderating my responses and prioritizing the fights. I am also for not behaving like the UAW members.

I'm also in same situation only difference is my visa stamped in PP is expired (Jan06), but has H1 till Jan 2009. I'm planning to visit India in Feb07 and return on AP. As I read in other forums that H1 will be valid and we can file for extension (even Cornin INS Memo (5-16-00)) memo says that. My attorney also confirmed that.

I would suggest you to get h1 your visa stamped from India and enter on h1 and not on AP. Don't even show your AP to the immigration inspector at the POE.

So Guys...
This is something really cheap of you people to think.....
I read a lot of posts where they mentioned that chuck should proceed with the bill.... so that small desi companies dont perish and that will stop abusing the H1B program...
I really dont understand that no one condemed that remark.. Guys who work in big companies are safe by this rule... So what happens to the one sustaining the so called abuses and remaining intact to get their GC's
No wonder we are not able to make progress as much as those illegal immi's do...
Way to go guys... This kind of spirit will take us to great highs

some of the provisions in Hagel (S. 1916, 1917, 1918, & 1919) Specter (unnumbered draft) bills have provisions for removal of numerical limits on adjust of status for people who have an advanced degree from US.
But is there any provision in any of the immigration bills which allows for "Ability to file for I485 even with visa number unavailability." like the one that was in s 1932. This would be easy to pass as Green card numbers would stay the SAME and no major modification is done to the existing law
